Cypherium was conceived in the fall of 2016. However, their origins date back to an earlier time when the band members grew up listening to a wide variety of music. This variety played an influential role in shaping their paths as musicians. These similar interests in music ultimately led them to join forces.
Cypherium's signature sound offers something different to its fans by creating and sharing original music that is unmistakably unique.
Cypherium is a New York City based jazz fusion and metal band that explores the concepts of artificial intelligence, human nature, consciousness, trauma, and war.
Moral Injury Album Reviews
Who needs a vocalist when you've got a sick ass trumpet player? Cypherium in their supremely horny assault have pushed out some of the most fresh instrumental prog I've heard since Dysrhythmia was at their peak back in 2012. With flairs of psych rock, worldly jazz, funk, and, of course, some driving metallic rhythms, Moral Injury is sure to be one of the most unique albums you hear in 2023. Favorite track: Heroic.
. . . Initially penned as a cinematic tale that navigates a soldier’s psychological experience (at and after war), Moral Injury strikes a careful balance between incidental, swelling, and stewing that delivers a listening journey that’s hard to come by in a more standard metal environment. If you’re looking for a way to expand your listening horizon, consider giving the unknown Cypherium a chance.
. . . Moral Injury is an audacious record from a quartet of talented and ambitious musicians, and is a respectable entrant into the jazz fusion catalogue. It is a record that does feel at its strongest when it’s embracing the possibilities of making jazz using metal instruments, like on the title track, more so than trying to add jazz on top of something more typically metal, such as “Instinct”, but I also appreciate that is only infrequently dabbles with cacophonic noise. Not an album that I love, but Moral Injury is very much worth a listen for anyone with an existing interest in the fusion of the two genres.
